There will be a tribute to Bryon Lars in honor of his Barbie Collection, Treasures of Africa; doll vendors, doll swap, arts & craft, a variety of workshops, doll look-a-like contest, give-a-ways, and showing of Why Do You Have Black Dolls by
Samantha Knowles.
Byron Lars fashions are
seen on Michelle Obama and many more. Lars has been designing for Barbie for
more than 16 years where his fashions are very unique and remind you of what
you would see right off the runways in Milan, Paris or New York City. He
combines fashion and culture and is a true original. He started
designing under his own label in 1991 and he continues to grow strong working with such prestigious retailers as Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and distribution in the U.K. and France just to name a few.

I believe it is important for Women and Children to see themselves in the products that they use. Baby Dolls teach children about themselves and the world around them. Playing with dolls help children develop cognitive, fine motor and self-help skills. Most importantly, Dolls can teach self love. Often times then not brown women and children struggle to love themselves because of the negative stereotype protrayed in the media, in addition to society's depiction of "beauty." It is true that image is everything and to see ones reflection in their dolls, magazines, television, etc. is most healthy. We as aunts, uncles, mothers, fathers, friends must not only defined our own beauty but encourage our children to love the skin that their in.
